What is grading?
Grading is the expert verification of the authenticity, grade and condition of coins, medals or banknotes by independent certifiers. Each item undergoes a thorough examination and is sealed into a permanently closed plastic holder (slab).

Important notice
Reassignment to a higher category
NGC may move an item into a higher price category if it determines that the market value exceeds the declared insured value.
Rejected items
NGC may mark items as "Not Genuine", for example if they have altered mint marks, date, surface or other modifications. Such items are not placed in a holder.
Items may also be marked as "Questionable Authenticity", "Not suitable for certification" or "Insufficient detail to identify".
All decisions on whether an item is placed in a holder rest entirely with NGC. For more detailed information, see the NGC website.
